GORILLA THEATRE/REVOLVE THEATRE COPRODUCTION A BONUS PLAY FOR THE GORILLA AUDIENCE
Far Away to Open on August 5
Tampa, Florida July 26th, 2010 Revolve Theatre Company, a daring and edgy new theatre company, will premiere Far Away by Caryl Churchill on Thursday, August 5 at the Gorilla Theatre. The play is the company's inaugural production.
The production promises to creep into the psyche of its audience members and take residence there. Permeated with paranoia and fear, Far Away is a timely and poignant piece that is beautifully acted by a talented cast including Jackie Rivera, Eric Burgess and Bridget Bean. In Far Away, Obie-winning playwright Caryl Churchill (A Number, Cloud 9, Mad Forest) presents a chilling dystopian vision of what happens when atrocities are committed and the world is allowed to go mad.
Bridget Bean, managing director of the Gorilla Theatre and an actress who was highly praised for her recent performance in the title role of Shirley Valentine, says that she is "thrilled to bits to present a play by my favorite playwright Caryl Churchill...Far Away is a real parable for our times and playing Harper is sheer joy."
Guiding them through this world of distrust and hyperbolic pressure is dynamic director Chris Jackson, whose recent endeavors have landed him high praise throughout the area. "The Revolve Theatre Company is setting sights on presenting provocative, experimental theatre to the Tampa Bay Area while keeping the message of the work accessible to the audience," states Jackson.
With experienced producers, widespread community support, and a top-notch technical team, including Production Manager Jerid Fox and Joel Gennari leading the Art Department, Revolve Theatre Company's first production should prove to be anything but ordinary. Co-Producers James Rayfield and Jessica Alexander, share the belief that Revolve will present a new experience for the Tampa Bay area.
"Theatre generates theatre," says James Rayfield. "Revolve sees a portion of the theatre experience that is being missed -- plays that are more theatrical and explore the special qualities of language and stories that can really only exist in theatre."
