WHAT IS TEEN ACTORS GANG @ THE GORILLA (TAGG)?
ACTING For Ages 13-18
TEEN ACTORS GANG @ THE GORILLA (TAGG)
Sundays, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Gorilla Theatre, 4419 N Hubert Ave, Tampa, FL 33614
CLASS DESCRIPTION
TAGG is for teens, age 13-18, interested in developing their acting and theatre skills on a pre-professional level. Students are challenged to be 100% present during every class. Not just there, but there, prepared, focused and ready to collaborate. Each week the students are introduced to different approaches to acting and theatre. The skills learned give the students an arsenal with which they can confidently tackle most acting roles, public speaking situations and communication in general. This class is for young adults who are interested in honing their interpersonal skills, boosting their confidence level and exploring a new social circle. Each actor will be called upon to trust each other, work with each other and push each other towards greatness.
In addition to class work, students will have monologues and scene work for the fall session and collaborate on a full production of a short play for the spring session. These projects will require a commitment to the program beyond attending class. Close to the end of each session, rehearsals outside of class will be scheduled around the actors’ availability. Each week, homework is expected. (But it's theatre, so it's fun homework, right?)
Ami Sallee Corley instructs. Corley is a 3-time Creative Loafing “Best of the Bay” winner for Best actress and Best Director. She is an active member of the arts community in Tampa and can be seen on stages or in the director’s chair all around the bay. Formerly, Corley has been Managing Director for Jobsite Theater and Operations and Producing Manager for The Patel Conservatory. She is currently the Managing Director for All Out Rep, arts activist for the Artist and Writers’ Group, Community Ambassador and faculty at the Patel Conservatory, Faculty for the Eleanor Dempsey PAC, and Resident Artist for The Gorilla Theatre. You can read more at her website or through her blog at The Daily Loaf.
Curriculum incorporates curriculum throughout that allows the students' work to reflect the mainstage season at The Gorilla. Students and parents are encouraged to become season ticket holders and a special TAGG discount applies to students and their families.
Individual instruction is also available to help with the homework between group sessions or to help with outside projects or auditions.
